About Sig Watkins
Science fiction author. Southern California. Building the world of The Last Marshal.
Why I Write
I grew up on Ghostbusters, Aliens, and Terminator. Later, it was Stephen King, Robert Heinlein, and Orson Scott Card. Science fiction and horror shaped the way I see the world, but I rarely saw protagonists who looked like me in any of it.
So I decided to write them.
The Last Marshal grew out of a simple question: what if one of history's most extraordinary Black heroes, a man the history books nearly forgot, was dropped into the far future at the moment humanity needed saving most? Bass Reeves was the first Black U.S. Deputy Marshal west of the Mississippi, a man who survived slavery, war, and the frontier to become one of the most effective lawmen of his era.
How I Work
I'm based in Southern California, where I split my time between writing, reading Scientific American, listening to StarTalk, and introducing my kids to the sci-fi novels that shaped me.
